Presenter Profiles
Athol 'Woody' Woodford
Being a presenter on 101FM has opened up a whole new world of music knowledge and appreciation for me. It's a dream come true.
My musical interests are fairly wide ranging and presenting Biggest Hits and Greatest Memories allows me to play the type of music I trust our listeners will appreciate and enjoy. The Morning Show is bright and breezy with interviews, news snippets, community information and a laugh or two. Where else can you spend three hours playing music and sharing your musical knowledge for the listening pleasure of others? Who wouldn't be excited? I host the Morning Show on Tuesdays from 9am until noon, Biggest Hits & Greatest Memories on Saturdays between 11am and 1pm, and the Drive Show on alternate Thursdays between 4 and 7pm. I also present at Outside Broadcasts (OBs) when rostered. I also perform with the 101fm band and host Monthly Movies. |

Bill Hardman
I joined Radio Logan together with my wife Mary in March 1986 and we did a test broadcast from a 16 foot caravan the following month from the bottom of the water tank at Daisy Hill.
We started with a program called “Backtrack” which is still going today and is music from the 1950’s & 1960’s. We have done interviews with some of the greats from that era, Guy Mitchell, Johnny Tillotson and Cliff Richard to name a few. Backtrack goes to air on Sundays from Noon to 2pm We once did an Outside Broadcast for a whole week in King George Square in Brisbane from 9am to 4pm each day and our station stood out because of our open air style of broadcasting and people could actually come up and talk to the announcer and watch what we were doing. I got the opportunity to do a regular Country program sometime in 2014 on Tuesday nights between 7pm & 10pm. Country and Country Rock are my second loves of music. My favourite Country artists being Alan Jackson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Lee Kernaghan, Adam Brand & Dwight Yoakam to name a few, there are many more. All the music we play on 101FM is all our own collection of music from Vinyl Records & CD’s and as long as we stay in format the selection of music is up to the presenter which I like. I have served on the committee of 101FM a number of times mainly as Treasurer and enjoyed my time with them. |
Bob Ballantyne
I joined 101FM in August 1987 and served many years in Management Positions such as Treasurer, Secretary, Senior Vice President and President. I was granted Life Membership in August 1998 for dedication and service to 101FM. There were many wonderful songs recorded between 1954 and 1979. Please join me when I go down that Memory Lane on alternate Monday nights between 7 and 10 pm.
I was Born in Brisbane on 7 January 1948. Grew up in Indooroopilly close to the high school. Represented Queensland Schoolboys in Cricket and Australia Rules Football. Played QAFL for Western Districts Bulldogs, from Under 12 to 'A' Grade in 1970. Played rhythm guitar in 60/40 band The Trojans, 1965 to 1967 around Brisbane. Played at Brisbane Festival Hall on two occaisions, supporting Jimmy Little and Col Joye, The Joye Boys and Little Pattie. I was the inaugral President of the Greenbank Sporting Association in 1973 and served as Secretary for approx 8 years. I am also a Life Member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of Queensland. I retired from work on 2 October 2015 after 36 enjoyable years at Logan City Council. |

Taking up a voluntary retirement from the Public Service
(Education Department) in 1992 provided the opportunityfor me to be a Presenter at 101FM. After a period of training I commenced "On-Air" duties in 1995.) In 1992 I became acquainted with the "Drive" format and chose to continue in that time slot over the years.
The stations format of playing Hits over a number of decades suits me well since my major interest has been contemporary music ever since I can remember. The highlight of the week is my shift on 101FM as well as church activities and delivering Meals on Wheels. I've recently been learning to play bridge with its complexities.
My wife and I moved to Ipswich 3 years ago where I grew up and have now returned after 30 years. Life in retirement is not too bad.

I treasure the opportunity to be a presenter on 101 fm. It is a vibrant Community radio station; there is an air of professionalism about the way things are done; we have a wonderfully supportive listener base but, most of all, it has given me a chance to fulfil a life-time dream of being a ‘DJ”
I have always had an interest in music ever since I heard my parents singing Gilbert and Sullivan and, from the day I first heard a tune called ‘Caravan’ which, as I later discovered, was performed by Duke Ellington. I have also been playing guitar of different types since I was twenty and have added to this the ukulele. I have been a Trivia Master for the past twenty years so I have had plenty of experience with a microphone and, having been a teacher for more than forty years, I have had to learn to project my voice and to master the art of understatement. I enjoy a wide range of music. Starting with Gilbert and Sullivan but most light classical music and, more recently, different genres of jazz as well as Blues. I have an in-depth knowledge of popular music of the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies. I have been a Folk Music junkie for about forty years and over the past twenty years I have become interested in contemporary Australian blues and folk. I regularly attend gigs by the likes of Jeff Lang and Andrew Winton, two contemporary Aussie exponents of the slide guitar. Oh, and like many of my contemporaries, I am also a Beatles tragic. My interests are:- Music - both playing and listening and, more recently, presenting. I am writing a novel – plenty of music references in it. I still enjoy some occasional teaching. Currently I present Classical Interlude and Jazz Junction on alternate Sundays. Classical Interlude covers a wide range of musical genres including baroque, the great Masters such as Bach, Beethoven and Mozart, operatic solos and duets, waltz music, classical religious music and contemporary Australian classical music. For me Jazz Junction has a heavy emphasis on the Great Swing era of the Thirties and Forties, the ‘cool jazz’ of Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Oscar Peterson and other Fifties and Sixties maestros and lighter ‘café jazz’ exponents such as Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall and Sarah Vaughan. I also promote local jazz musicians such as Robyn Brown and Dan Bolton. |

101FM is a vibrant community radio station and it shows through all who partake in the running of the day to day operations, from the administration and admin support, sales, programmers and fellow presenters who are always Willing to help.
Fund raising is a big part of our 101FM, this is where you really get to know just how lucky you are to be involved. Presenting is about giving something back to the community and knowing that you can do this makes it all worthwhile. That is what I enjoy the giving back and the opportunity to do so. I have no previous experience in radio but as a teenager loved the music box that filled a good part of our lives before TV. Some of us are old enough to remember. I was asked what I would like to do once I retired from my job 5 or 6 years ago and hinted about doing something on radio but had no idea how to go about it. I heard 101FM advertising training classes and decided to give it ago. With the experience of Graham Tienan and the management crew I completed the course with 6 others. Still learning but enjoying 6 years later. My taste in music goes back to the late 50's and 60’s that is what I enjoy most but as the years go on l am now finding that some of today's music has what I like. A bit of rhythm and easy listening Radio is my interest and hobby, finding new music for listeners entertainment is what I enjoy 2nd hand CD sales are where the treasures are found. AFL is my sport of choice. My present programs are as follows. Party Mix on the 2nd Saturday of each month 10pm-1am. The 3rd,4th and 5th Sundays in each month Biggest Hits and Greatest Memories 8am-Midday Sundays are where we go back to the 60's for the final hour with a hit of fun remembering the good old days. Well that is me in a nut shell, thank you for taking the time to read the little there is to know about and I look forward to talking or meeting our valued listeners and supporters at 101FM |

I enjoyed a 25 year career in commercial radio as a music jock, including an 8 year stay at 3mp in Melbourne, and loved “almost” every minute of it. Music has always been a huge part of my life, fishing is right up there too and travelling around this great country of ours.
20 years or more after leaving radio I was in a store at Westfield and heard a voice sing out “You’re Dave Wallen” I replied nervously ‘maybe” not too sure what I was in for, although the voice did sound strangely familiar . It was an old, very old mate and colleague from my days doing breakfast at 4RO in Rockhampton. We had lost touch over the years; so compared notes from the good old days, shared a brew, and he said he was still in the biz and working in community radio at Logan City’s 101fm, and suggested I come down and have a look at the studios. He eventually convinced me to join. So thanks very much Mal West.
So that’s how I come to be here. I am now enjoying my retirement even more, loving the music and the people and hope I can be at 101fm for a long time. I hope you will be too. Catch you on Thursday.

Glenn Richardson
Presenter for Biggest Hits & Greatest Memories and other programs at various times.
I was born in Brisbane, and have lived here all of my life As a teenager in the 1970's, I became a big fan of 70's music, and remain so today, although I enjoy popular and optimistic music from the 1960's through to today as well. My profession is managerial, presently manager of Claremont over 50s Resort Park Ridge. I have held many roles in property and development. I have been a Real Estate Agent, Truck Driver, and various other occupations, including being a pizza maker and hotel staff member in my younger days. I became interested in radio when I won a competition on a commercial Brisbane FM station in 2001, and was a guest there on a number of occasions. The work they did, the technology they utilised fascinated me, and the personalities I came to know were nice, friendly people. In 2007, I was fortunate to be introduced to 101FM as a client, and voiced ads for my employer. At that time I learned that they were offering a presenters course, and elected to do that. The 101FM family is a great place to belong, and I love presenting music programs for our listening audience, especially Greatest Hits and Memories! I fill in for Drive & Greatest Hits and Memories its occasionally as well, and enjoy every single program I present |
Gray Tienan
I love music! And that is why I love working at Logan City’s 101fm as it gives me the opportunity to play music just for you.
Whether it’s today’s country music, the 70’s from the lunchbox, the 80’s from the Big 3 @ 3 or just anything from the 60’s to now, I hope you can join me Wednesday afternoons from noon till 4 for the Biggest Hits and Greatest Memories or maybe Saturday mornings from 7am till 9 for Today’s Country, on Logan City’s 101fm or 101fm.com.au |

I enjoy being a 101FM presenter, prior to that I was a postie for about 40 years with Australia Post.
As well as a postie, I have played in numerous bands, among these were The Bandidos, The Temptations and The Trojans, to name a few. I sang for the first time on radio 4KQ in the sixties, then went on to win the ccma award in Tamworth for the best country gospel song in 1985. I did busking on the streets of Tamworth for quite a few years. I met Neile Willis as the drummer of our country gospel band The Crusaders about 10 years ago, and he asked me to answer the phone while he was presenting his Thursday night country program about 2 years ago. That is when I became a member of 101fm. We now share This program on alternate weeks. I have always enjoyed using a microphone , in clubs, pubs, birthday- Parties, etc., And feel at ease doing so. Ian Day
Hi there - and thanks for checking us out!
I first got involved with radio at 4BH back in the 50's but then fell in love with Picture Theatres and work in various theatres for many years. The arrival of TV frightened me out of theatres as so many were forced to close. I then got into the Security Industry with Mayne Nickless / M.S.S... I then spent 36 years in the Security Industry in various management positions. Over those years I did do some radio work and 'voice over' work as well as produced several Security Training films. I joined 101 FM whilst still working in security. Over the years since I have presented most programs on 101 FM although for many years now I have been involved mostly with Country Music programs. I currently present "Breakfast in the Country" 5am to 8am on alternate Sundays. I am married to Margaret who helps me out on the phones at 101 FM. Thanks for listening and I hoped you enjoy my programs. Have-a-Happy ... ! |
Ian 'Bluey' George
Your Old Mate Bluey aka Ian George
A little under 12 months ago I made the decision to do some community work, an my old mate, Alan Casonati insisted I come down to 101 to have some fun on the air. Alan and I, along with Graham Tiernan, had worked together at 4TO back in the 80's then again with Big Al at 4BH in Brisbane in the early ninety's. I guess having worked in commercial radio as a daytime presenter for 15 years at various stations as well as into Sales Management and Marketing for 4 years, as a small business owner, then real estate online advertising as a Business Development Manager for almost 10 years, I come to 101FM with a wealth of experience to offer. My on air expertise comes from afternoons at 4WK Toowoomba, Breakfast presenter at 4TO Townsville then back to Toowoomba at 4GR in drive, then a short stint at 4KQ. I was then appointed General Sales Manager at Stereo 10, also Lite & Easy1008 then it returned to 4IP under new management. At 4BH I covered weekend casual breakfast shifts as well as sales and marketing. If you asked me my passion, its family and music . . . . it really is all about the music for me. So why don't you join me in Wednesday afternoon Drive, 4-7pm. I look forward to having you join me at 101FM. |

Matthew East
Hi, I'm Matthew East and I present Night Moves and Party Mix on various Fridays and Saturdays. Both shows run from 10pm until 1am.
I've lived in Logan City all my life, attended St Paul's primary school at Woodridge and did my secondary schooling at Trinity College, Beenleigh. Following my year 12 graduation, I commenced work in warehouse distribution. Since I was very young, I've always loved music and radio. My parents have always been big fans of the music from the 1960s and I grew up listening to that music. I was always the 'DJ' at family celebrations. I joined 101FM in 2010, initially as part of the youth programme Random Outburst and then from early 2012 as a Night Moves and Party Mix presenter. I really love presenting these programmes and enjoy being able to play music from the late '50s until the present time. Although I'm only young I play plenty of "golden oldies" Hits & Memories! |
Mike Anderson
The reason I have been a very contented presenter at 101fm for almost 13 years is because of the environment plus being able to present my own selection of musical content. I have always had a love of music going right back to my pre teens. Being in the music industry as karaoke owner operator for 21 years has only helped my love of music. The many loyal listeners who take the time to phone in saying they are enjoying my music and my presentation is very rewarding. My favourite music would have to be country ,from the 60's thru to today. I also love presenting what I like to call easy on the ears format , the likes of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett just to name a few. I am currently presenting Monday afternoon 12-4pm as well as the occasional breakfast program. Thank you for tuning your radio to 101FM.

Mike Bennett
I’ve presented the Monday morning show since late 2015 (I know, it seems longer!) and
pride myself on the fact that we bring you the biggest and best variety of interesting and informative guests every week. Add to that our 3 word Mondays, Name that Tune plus top 10 lists and you have the format for an action packed 3 hour show. There’s the occasional mention for the long suffering ‘Current Mrs Bennett’ and Fletch the Wonderdog too! I love the interaction with our listeners via Facebook and enjoy meeting many of them at outside broadcasts and ‘Movie of the month’ events. Being given the chance to choose our own music for each show is a great bonus and I try to keep it upbeat and fun with a great range of hits and classic memories. If you haven’t already tuned in to the Monday Morning show, give it a try. . . it even includes subtitles to help with my accent! Cheers |

Nicko
Hi Nicko here,
My life ambition was to be a presenter. I have been on 101FM for twelve years. I do "Night Moves" (10pm to 1am) every second Wednesday night and "Party Mix" (7pm to 10pm) on the second and fourth Saturday every month. My favourite music is the sixties, it was an exciting era to grow up in. Although I experienced the seventies I was influenced by the music of two older sisters. We grew up on the north coast. The surf scene was the go....... I stlll remember the "sockhops" and my sister with her "bobby socks". We frequented the Mooloolaba surf life saving club. I remember the "woodies" parked outside. A lot of my sisters friends were lifesavers with their girlfriends. Rock and Roll was big and there were concerts in town. Both my sisters had a cleaning job at a motel where the stars stayed between gigs. They used to come home with Col Joy, Billy Thorpe, Normie Rowe signatures on their school hats in lipstick..........Mum was not impressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Rock and Roll and the sixties influence. Outside of 101FM I enjoy cooking, spending time with my mates, going away in my caravan. I also enjoy dancing.............Rock and Roll of course. I love to interact with my audience, to convey my sense of humour and with that I look forward to the phone calls and value their time to listen to my show. I also like to embrace the music and make a difference in their lives..... |

Peter Hope
Hi, I am Peter Hope.
I present "Sunday Morning Biggest Hits and Greatest Memories" 8.00am - Noon and various other casual fill in programs when requested. The people who would enjoy my program are everyone who appreciates & enjoys good music from the 50's to the present. It is a real challenge but also my pleasure to personally select music for you. I trust that it brings a bright interlude into your Sunday or daily routine during the week. When you relax on Sunday it should be just the kind of music that you enjoy. Your phone calls & comments tell me you like what we play here on 101FM. Just a little background so we can get to know each other. I served in the Royal Australian Navy at the age of 19 as a Sonar Technician, tracking submarine movements in the South China Sea. I served in Vietnam during the Vietnamese War back in 1969/70. When I was discharged from the Navy I enlisted in the Queensland Fire & Rescue Service, where I was employed as a Senior Station Officer. I remained in that very rewarding profession for the next 32 years & I had the opportunity to help a lot of people in times of disaster & adversity. I am retired now but I still have the desire to give to those who can use a hand or are in trouble. So maybe that is why I enjoy bringing you some good music & a little happiness on 101 FM. I have been a past Vice President & President of this wonderful Station as well as training many of our on air presenters. This is a great Station with fine people who enjoy sharing your company. I hope you enjoy sharing ours. Have a happy life & share some laughter with others. |
Ross Burns
The best part about being a radio presenter at 101FM is the opportunity to play songs that evoke powerful memories for our listeners. I particularly like to play songs that everybody knew back in the day, but which have long since ceased getting played on other radio stations. I like to think that when I play them, some of our listeners are going to exclaim “I haven’t heard this in ages! I used to love this song”. It reminds me of…”
I also like to be able to offer interesting tidbits and background information about some of the songs and their artists. The best thing about 101FM is that the station doesn't oblige me to play songs from a narrow playlist, but gives me the freedom to play the songs that I know will give our listeners those “feel good moments”. Your background history or special interests that you would like to share with listeners. I spent a few years in the early 1980s as a DJ at a popular roller-skating rink and also had a regular job as DJ at parties and wedding receptions. My favourite music era is from 1975 to 1985, but I also have tremendous respect for the calibre of songs that were released in the late Sixties. I prefer songs that made the Top 40 in their day, rather than the quirky or alternative stuff. Each year, I spend several weeks in the US as part of my ongoing quest to visit all 50 states. I often present Hits and Memories shows on Saturday mornings, or Party Mix on Saturday nights. However, when work commitments don’t take me interstate, I also often present the Late Show on Tuesday Nights and during that time I like to feature the music from a single year during the Sixties, Seventies or Eighties and take the listeners back in time with popular songs from that year, while also revisiting aspects of that year including significant events, popular movies and TV shows, the prices of basic goods and the items that were the sought-after gadgets or popular Christmas gifts back then. |
Simone Feiler
Simone loves radio and has worked in world class radio stations around the globe including Q103 in Cambridge, KIX-106-Fm in Canberra and Triple M Brisbane.
She’s mum to Sunny and Melody and Michaela. She also has her beautiful Pomeranians Bella and Bo Brady. Simone is a part time fitness motivator and also owns www.brisbaneaudiobookproduction.com Simone and her girls reside in Logan and on the weekend they love to get outdoors and keep up their fitness, they are all very sporty! Listen to Simone every second Tuesday from 4pm, playing her favourite selection of music from the 80's through to now and keeping you up to date with traffic reports for the drive home. |

Steve presented Railway Blues here on 101FM before heading away to the Islands on Moreton Bay in 2010. Now he is back again and with a love for music, especially Blues as well as Blues influenced Soul, Folk, Rock and Jazz.
Always looking to promote live music and local musicians and a genuine enthusiasm for sharing make for a great 2 hours of tunes and information.
The name Railway Blues comes about due to the position of the station 101FM being on Railway Pde, and Steve introducing albums 2 tracks at a time from each album. So jump aboard the ride .

Ted Thirkill
I have been a member of 101FM since 1986 and have been doing regular on air shifts since we were granted our broadcast license in 1988. What I like about 101 FM is I can play my favourite music for my listeners out there to enjoy.
I do a program every Saturday at 4pm that I call Ted's Memories which is 3 hours of music from my favourite eras the 50s&60s. I also do a program every 2nd Monday night between 7 & 10 called Down Memory Lane where I play mainly easy listening music out of the 50s with some easy 60s and it is music you don't hear on Commercial radio I like a lot of the 70s music. I am not a great fan of modern music or heavy classical (too boring) or heavy metal. Most other music I like. I like being with 101Fm. They are a great team and I hope I can still be on air entertaining listeners in the Logan /Brisbane area and the world wide web for many years to come. |

I have also been associated with the following stations: 6KA Karratha, Central Radio 87.6FM Beenleigh, 100.3 Bay FM, 91.3FM Yeppoon, Prime Radio 4RO Rockhampton, 4CC Gladstone, and the Super Radio Network FM93.5. My roles within these networks have included Station Manager, Program Director, Music Director, Sales Manager, together with various on-air broadcasting programs. When you are 'on air', the most important person in your life is your listener. I'm constantly reminded why people listen to the radio:
The most important thing is....never forget your listener. As 101FM Station Manager, being part of this great radio station has provided me with the opportunity to deliver the skills and experience required, to uphold and maintain the day to day operations of a successful radio station. As part of our sales team, I look forward to designing a specific sponsorship advertising program to suit your individual business requirements.
